TeriLynn

Is it safe to swim with locs? Do I need to cover my hair with a cap if I swim regularly?

Kirigo Kabuga

Thanks for that great question TeriLynn, especially when the season is just rolling in. It is absolutely safe to swim with locs, I would recommend a swim cap just for the protection of your hair from the chlorine. Chlorine has a tendency to leave hair feeling dry. After swimming especially if you swim often, I recommend you rinse the hair out with water in the shower, and if you swim more than 3 times a week it is best for you apply some hydrating conditioner to reduce dryness of the locs.
Avoid shampooing more than twice a week to control dryness to the locks.
Hope this information will come in handy. Enjoy the sport, I love to swim as well and I love how easy it is with my locs.
Truth be told I don't wear a swim cap...

I need your recomendation, I twist my hair a month a go and is not lock yet also my hair is lossing in the back so I have re-twist almost avery morning what I can do to lock my hair faster. I work out at the gym avery day and I suit a lot
what product do you recomend and haw to aplied thank you

Kirigo Kabuga

Hello George, and thanks for your question about your concerns as to how to make the lock process move faster. Well to be honest, is not in your hands, nor is it on your stylist hands, it's all about how you hair responds to water and the texture of your hair. You may want to look into other locking options such as the Brotherlocks that look similar to the sisterlocks only bigger.
The amount of product you put in your hair is only going to cause you more problems. Avoid beeswax or any product that will get caked into your locks. Our hair can lock all by itself without product.
When locking hair you really need to exercise patients, because that is the only way to get to the finish line. Hang in there. In due time things will eventually take shape. When? I can't say but in due time.
Hope this helps.

What method of locking was used in the picture above on the page?

Dawn Morris

Before I decided to lock, i used olive, sunflower and safflower oils on my natural hair. The sunflower and safflower oils changed the texture of my hair by straightening it to the point that all i can do is make plats to start the locing process. What is a good moisturizer that i can use that won't straighten my naturally coarse hair.

Kirigo Kabuga

Hi Dawn Morris,

Thank you for sharing what's going on with your hair.
I have found that when your natural hair straightens when using some natural oils, there has to have been some heat involved, wheather by a blow dryer, pressing comb, or hot curling irons.
May this be the reason in your case?
Please get back to me on this matter. I would love to hear more facts from you, so that I am better equipped to offer solutions that may be of value to you.
Looking forward to hearing more from you.

Hello Kirigo,

I just started my locking process two weeks ago. I am in the early stages and I wanted to know how often must I spray oils on my hair to keep it looking heathy? I've been using wonder 8 oil every other day for a couple of days now. Is this cool or not? Should I be using it less or more times a week during the baby loc stage?

Peace,

Mack

Kirigo Kabuga

Heloo Mack Exilus,

Thank you so much for reaching out to me.
First of all I want to tell you STOP putting products on your locks on a daily bases.
This will eventually creat build up on your locks, giving you the opposit results of what you are looking for. Once every 2 weeks is fine.
Oil should be applied directly on the scalp. Rub your hands together with the excess, then massage lightly over the shaft of the locks. Locks do better with less product.
Wishing a succesful lock journey.

Hello kiriga

Well just asking if size matter, few of mines or thin a some thick, the thick ones are like double the thin and it 5month now. How often you think i should re-twist it..I used "Jamaican mango and lime ",locking gel. plus i use braid to get it lock also.. Thats all for now..

Kirigo Kabuga

Hello Lakeisha,
With traditional locks size definitely matters. If they are very thin and you twist too tight they tend to break off. If they are long and heavy and small, they also break off.
A little product goes a long way, otherwise you create build up in your locks, and that not good.
Just go easy on your hair.

Hello Setravieso opiniones,

Thank you for taking the time with us. If I may add, just always be careful with how much products we put in and on our locks.
Less is best, to avoid build up in the locks.

Peace

Mack Exilus

Hello Kirigo,

Its Mack again. First I want to thank you for your advice on not oiling my hair to much. It was very helpful and has worked out well for me.

It's been 6 months since I have had my locks now and they are coming along very well. My hair stylist has been braiding my locks back when I re twist and this has worked well for me because I run marathons. As a runner I have been wearing dry fit hats to hold the locks in place but i sweat alot. Is the sweat helpful or harmful for my locks and scalp?

My second question to you is about re twisting product. My stylist uses Organic Root stimulator Lock and twist gel. what do you think of this product? Is there any other things I can use when re twisting or should i just stay with what i've been using?

Peace,

Mack.

Kirigo Kabuga

Hello Mack Exilus,
Good to hear from you again. I am pleased to hear that the tips I shared with you, have been of value to you.

As for your first question, If sweat is harmful to your locks?

Answer: No it is not, however if you do not wash your locks weekly or biweekly, the locks will develop an odor caused by mildew that will be difficult to wash out with regular shampoo.

Question 2: What do I think of Organic Root Stimulator?

Answer: I have never used it, but with any product, moderation is the key. Actually less is best in my books. If you find that this product has worked for you, and your locks do not have any build up or look dull. Then carry on with it. If you see results which ever way, there is your answer.

Hope this has been of some help to you.
I plan and posting these question as an up coming blog.

Thanks for your support.

Angela R.

Hello,

I have been natural for awhile(it will be 2 years in February). I am seriously thinking about locking hair hair. My question is, how mature do you think the locs need to be before you can start having styles (crinkly, bantu knots, etc)?

Angela R.

Oh..and another question (lol), do locs tend to make the hair grow faster because you're not manipulating your hair as much?
